2NE1 Had Its Share Of Crises

2NE1 debuted in 2009 and have since then successfully established their own personal color. They are a group that is so well loved worldwide, and have thus been able to hold a 2nd world tour. Their moves are always confident and fearless. Although they’re a group that’s on a roll, they’ve had their own share of crises as well.

“For the past 2 years we’ve released 3 singles. It’s a different feel than an album. It’s not as intense. I think we’ve overcome a difficult hump during those 2 years. It was a time of waiting, and we often felt frustrated. We’re thankful towards each other because each member has worked that much harder. It was a period where we could have failed, but we all persevered and each member did her responsibility. That’s why we were able to come this far.”

2NE1’s 2nd album Crush is especially meaningful to 2NE1. It’s their first full length album in 4 years, and unlike their 1st album which contained previously released singles, the 2nd album is filled with new songs. “For us this album is like our first official album,” they said.

More than anything the process of working on the album until the release of the final product was special.

“With this album release it feels like we’ve gotten rid of the heaviness we’ve felt until now. And in that process the members have gotten much closer. As we recorded the self-composed songs, it took much longer because there are 4 members, but it was a meaningful time for us. We realized and came to a deeper understanding that we can’t do it without each other, and have developed thankfulness toward one another and created many great memories.”

Their longing for the album was quite great. They wanted to showcase a new performance but they couldn’t, and they were saddened by the fact that they didn’t have any new songs to perform for their 1st world tour in 2012. That’s why the girls decided to perform their new song at their world tour Seoul concert instead of a TV broadcast for their comeback.

And because of their longing, they were even more careful. They were more nervous because of their fans’ expectations, and they wanted to present a completed album that can be recognized. Since the album was long-awaited, they focused on making 2NE1-esque music that wouldn’t be a letdown.

“Our greedy aspirations are what took a long time. We really liked all the songs on our last mini album, and we felt like this new album couldn’t be any less than that. For the 2 years we prepared this album, it felt like we were trainees once again. It was a time in which we couldn’t spent doing nothing, but we never let go and continually did something, and our efforts really show in this album, I think.”

They’ve also had realizations through this time. “There’s been no group like 2NE1 in the past, and there’s no group like 2NE1 now, and there won’t be a group like 2NE1 in the future.”

The group is also excited about this world tour. “There’s nothing as exciting as a concert. Our goal is to hold an encore concert in Korea to wrap up our tour. We need to work hard so that our fans will come see us in order for this to happen. In the long run, bumps in the road will find us unexpectedly, and when it comes we want to overcome it and stay with each other for a long time.”

2NE1 is still on fire

It’s been five years since K-pop group 2NE1 debuted with “Fire” in 2009.

This year, 2NE1, composed of CL, Bom, Sandara Park and Minzy, is on the comeback trail with their new album “Crush.”

“Crush” debuted at No. 61 on the Billboard 200, setting a record as the highest-charting K-Pop album on the chart.

“Until this week’s chart, the scene had only hit as high as No. 126 with Girls’ Generation-TTS’ Twinkle’ EP in 2012,” noted Billboard.com.

2NE1 is not resting on their laurels, taking their motivation from the group motto, “never getting old.”

“I personally don’t like the feeling of easiness. I believe once you start to enjoy the comfortable feeling, that’s the end of everything. Each member still has a lot to show in terms of our different personalities and styles. If we keep doing what we do, time will fly,” said CL, according to YG Life blog and Star News.

For Sandara, she said she will keep on trying on different hairstyles.

“It is important to keep looking for new challenges. Personally, I’m always pursuing for changes by trying different hairstyles, although the ‘palm tree’ and ‘vegetable’ looks failed. It is better not to go overboard on things sometimes,” she said, referring to her hairstyle when they promoted “Fire.”

2NE1 has been promoting “Crush,” which was released online last February 27.

The group held their first fan signing event in three years last March 15 at Times Square mall in Seoul.

The last time they held a similar event was in 2011 when they were promoting their second mini album.

Last March 16, 2NE1 won their first music TV chart win for “Come Back Home” on SBS “Inkigayo.”

“Crush” is 2NE1′s second studio album since “To Anyone,” which was released in 2010.

“It took four years. Since our first album includes many single songs, it feels like this second album is actually the first regular album in our hearts. We tried various types of music and genre and stepped out of the boundary, so I’m exceptionally proud that the album came out to be great,” said CL.

Sandara said they are “having a great time because we released many new songs after a long time.”

2NE1 also noted that “fans’ support is great motivation. There’s nothing rewarding than fans’ support and them being proud of us.”

How do they see themselves in the next decade?

Sandara said, “I hope we stay the same after 10 years as well. We would probably be enjoying ourselves, just like now, not getting any older. My wish is to age stylishly, regardless of work, dressing like this and dying my hair blue even when I become a grandmother.”

2NE1 Says, “Rivalry with Girls’ Generation? We Definitely Lose on Romance Issue”

[by Cho Suyoun] Members of 2NE1 shared their opinions about competitive composition with Girls’ Generation.
On February 14, bntnews interviewed girl group 2NE1 at Conrad Hotel in Seoul to commemorate the group’s new album release.
During the interview, CL said, “We admire how Girls’ Generation is loved by the public for this long period. The girls must have more experiences since they held on to this group for such long time. We always thought that it is truly amazing how each member is active in one’s own area.”
Then, Sandara continued, “I watched the comeback performance of Girls’ Generation a few days ago. Well, it’s difficult to compare us to them in details since each of us have different colors. Yet, Girls’ Generation is showing something we can’t.”
Prior to this, Girls’ Generation and 2NE1 each released new albums ‘Mr. Mr’ and ‘Crush.’ Thus, the two groups inescapably returned to screen in the same time. As many know, the two were considered rivalries ever since many years ago, and they were always compared on music charts.
When the members were asked about romance, CL replied with laughs, “We certainly are lagging behind on love. No one is dating right now unlike Girls’ Generation.”
“We don’t have so many chances to meet men and we don’t have men in our lives right now,” mentioned Park Bom. “Well, we have some guys at the agency, but they just seem like close friends, which is very bad. And Dara doesn’t really leave her home so that explains,” said CL.
“Now the agency people are worrying about our love life as well,” added Sandara regarding their long-term boyfriend-free period.

Meanwhile, 2NE1’s 2nd complete album ‘CRUSH,’ comprised of ten tracks including two title songs ‘Come Back Home’ and ‘Gotta Be You,’ was released in two versions: pink and black editions. Each version is composed of different photos that exude charms of the members.

2NE1 Members Still Single And Hating It: Will CL, Minzy, Bom And Dara Ever Find Their ‘Crush’?

Their new album “Crush” might be topping the K-pop charts, but the members of 2NE1 say they still can’t find love.

In an interview released on Monday by their record label YG Entertainment, 2NE1 bandmates CL and Minzy claimed that unlike the members of Girls Generation, they do not have any boyfriends to reveal.

“We also want to give our fans good news,” CL said. “I would like to reveal my new boyfriend, but I don’t have one.”

“Someone even said that love isn’t in my DNA,” Minzy added.

But when asked about their goals, not a single one of the lovelorn ladies of 2NE1 mentioned romance.

“I want to be an inspiring singer,” Minzy said. “I hope to be a musician who can help people.”

“I hope people can listen to our songs and be encouraged,” Park Bom added. “I want to be an artist who can empower people.”

It was 2NE1 band member Dara who set the bar highest for herself.

“I want to take myself to another level,” she said. “I think I can show more of myself to others. I recently started learning guitar and I want to keep practicing so I can perform any song.”

For the group’s frontwoman CL, 2014 is all about the fans.

“I studied music as a young girl, and I made my debut early on. I think it was other people who helped me to grow,” she said.

“Before, I thought what I wanted to do was important and that I should do what I want. But now, I want our fans to give us power, and want to spend time with them. I want to learn from our fans.”
