[TRANSLATION] [Star♡Pet] Gong Minji, “2NE1 is My Root, I’ll Enjoy Being Alone”

“2017 Was The Year For New Challenges, Free From the Pressures Of First Place”

[Joy News 24, Reporter Lee Mi Young] Loving an animal is loving life. The animal companion next to us is another aspect to the love of life. In the age of 10 million people who share pets, the best quality for fostering a desirable companion animal culture is also love. Now, I want to try to get ‘lovesick’ with you.

This is a series ‘Star ♡ Pet’, which is jointly planned and covered by the entertainment sports media outlet Joy News 24 and pet media outlet Note Pet. Through the ‘joys and sorrows’ of ‘other family members’ and stars who share the same high altitude, we will deliver the readers ‘the happiness and love virus’. We look forward to much attention and love.

We are used to Gong Minji on stage. She is a dancer with powerful performances and a singer with a very attractive voice. Off stage, Minji is totally different. Being together with Dougie, Minji is a friendly dongsaeng herself. There’s a lovely look in her eyes while looking at Dougie, there is a quiet smile on her lips. Minji said, “Living with a dog, as much as that moment, I got a lot of aegyo. When I’m with her, I express my love without even knowing it,” smiling bashfully.

Full of the girl crush image on stage, Gong Minji is without it at home. Dougie’s aegyo is the reason Minzy softly melts. Looking at Dougie’s adorable eyes, my lips break into a smile.

[TRANSLATION] The Evolution ‘From 2NE1’s Maknae To Solo Minzy’ (star1 Magazine May 2017)

More than anyone in the world of singers, she had a calm brilliance in her debut. Many people have watched Minzy on 2NE1’s magnificent stage while chanting their names. But as she boldly decided to stand alone and approach the public, little by little, the walls began to shatter. We began to see ‘the real Minzy’ that no one had known. [TRANSLATION] MINZY QUEENZY (Nylon Magazine May 2017)

It’s been 8 years since your debut, and I feel you’re enjoying shooting.
That might be because I loved to take pictures. Before, there was a lot of weight placed on looking strong, but now I feel loose. Even when I look at pictures, I look more comfortable.

I was surprised to confirm your age. I thought you were older.
Yep. I’m a fresh 24 year old. Everyone says I look older.

I hear a lot of people call you mature.
(Looks at me) They say I’m forty years old….

[INTERVIEW] Minzy For Life And Dogue (December 2017)

How have you been? It seems a lot changed since you joined another agency.

That is right. Before, I didn’t do entertainment shows. These days, I am doing a lot of radio and magazine photo shoots. My album came out in April and I went to Hong Kong to meet my fans overseas. Now, I am preparing for the next album.

You were rather mysterious before, but now your image is more comfortable. Which one fits you better?

I prefer to be approachable, like a friend living next door. It was great that I could show all of myself on the entertainment shows without any disguise. ‘Unnies’ Slam Dunk 2’ was an entertainment show that I felt the most comfortable. If it were another show, I would have felt very awkward. All of the staff and members were nice and it was successful. I feel comfortable in the shows, but once I go up on stage, I become a charismatic woman again. That is not intentional, but I think it reflects my look and behaviors I had built up until now. I like both of images, one that is comfortable as in the entertainment shows and the other one with charisma on the stage.

The name of your dog is Dougie.

There is a dance from LA called the Dougie Dance and is like a dog dancing with enjoyment. I wanted my dog to be happy all the time so I name it Dougie.

[ARTICLE] Minzy Mentioned On soompi’s “All Grown Up: 8 Idols Who Basically Matured With Their Groups”

Before debuting in a K-pop group, many idols spend a lot of time together during their trainee days, and their bonds continue to grow as they share the same dorm and attend the same practice schedules on a daily basis.

Some idols, usually the maknae of the group, will leave their homes at a very young age to pursue their dreams. But because they’re so young, they end up being looked after by the rest of the members. With this in mind, here are eight idols who basically grew up with their groups!

7. Gong Minzy

Dance machine Gong Minzy, who joined YG Entertainment at age 11, was mainly raised by the former 2NE1 members throughout both the exhausting training period and the years of fame that followed, before eventually choosing her own path. In the documentary below, the girls gave Minzy fashion tips while she was preparing to attend a rock festival. They also expressed their parental concern upon her growing up, and debated whether they should be cool or strict as parents.
